My name is Michelle Rasmussen. I am a wife and mother to three amazing kids Julia (10), Jase (5) and Joy (2). My husband, Mark and I have been married for 14 years and we have always called the Omaha area home!
Early Childhood Education has always been a passion of mine. When I was in high school I worked at a daycare and saw firsthand how young children were cared for. It didn’t seem right to me that the only standards in place were basic safety standards and still many of those were not being met on a daily basis. I have always believed that all children are born learning and only maintaining safety standards did not make since to me. This experience at a young age drove me to want to figure out a way to make a difference in the lives of young children.
I attended college at Metro Community College and earned my Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education then I attended Peru State College and earned my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. While putting myself through school I continued to work in different Early Childhood Programs here in the Omaha area.
Even though I enjoyed my time student teaching in an Elementary School setting, my heart is and will always be working with preschool age children and younger.
While teaching at a Head Start program I found out that I was expecting our first child. I couldn’t imagine having to leave our daughter at an early childcare program while I went to another program across town to work every day. When I was 6 months pregnant we found the perfect house where I could open Lighthouse Preschool. When Julia was 3 months old I enrolled our first family and I have not looked back since. This has been a perfect fit for this stage of life. I get so spend my days with my own children while doing the job that I love.
