This summer we had an amazing opportunity to see firsthand what can hatch from an egg. We participated in the Douglas County Extensions program called “Look What’s Hatching.” We received an incubator with 10 eggs along with several book about life cycles, eggs and nest and activities to go along with our learning.
During the summer months we have several older friends who join us here at Lighthouse Preschool. The school age friends and preschool friends were very excited about this opportunity. During the 3 weeks while we were waiting for our eggs to hatch we read many books, asked Alexa several questions and had many conversations about animals that hatch from eggs.
We named our 10 eggs, built and painted nest, made dinosaur eggs to break open, pretended we were hatching and cared for pretend chickens, chicks and their eggs.
In the end only one of our chicks hatched and survived. Antonio was a very well loved chick! After we cared for Antonio for about a week he was taken to a petting farm at a county fair to be loved on by more children!
